First Stop: Cairo – Pyramids, Sphinx & ATV Thrills

The moment I stepped foot in Cairo, I could feel the pulse of history intertwined with modern chaos. The honking of cars, the dryness of the desert clinging to the air, and the distant call to prayer created a rhythm unlike any other city I’ve visited.

A visit to Giza was, of course, non-negotiable. Standing before the Great Pyramids, their sheer scale and precision left me in awe. No picture does justice to the feeling of walking between these ancient giants, the same structures that have stood for over 4,500 years. And let’s talk about the Sphinx—And then there was the Sphinx—an enigmatic guardian of the desert. Seeing it in person, weathered yet powerful, was surreal. 

But one of the most unexpected highlights? ATV riding through the desert. Riding across the dunes with the pyramids in the distance was pure adrenaline. The rush of speed, dust flying, and the vast openness of the Sahara made me feel completely free. It was the perfect contrast to the stillness inside the pyramids—a moment of wild exhilaration before walking through history. With sand flying beneath our tires and the vast desert stretching endlessly ahead, it was one of those experiences that made me want to say, Let’s do that again! But what truly made this experience unforgettable? 

Venturing inside one of the Great Pyramids. What they don’t tell you is just how tight, steep, and physically demanding the journey inside actually is. The entrance is low, forcing you to crouch as you shuffle forward, and as you climb higher, the air starts to warm up fast. The passageway is narrow, making it a challenge as people squeeze past going down while you’re trying to go up. At one point, you have to crawl a bit to reach the center, which only adds to the adventure.
